On Nov. 14, the South Central Los Angeles-born and bred rapper The Game will drop his highly anticipated, 17-track sophomore album Doctor’s Advocate, but before he does that, he’ll put out “It’s Okay (One Blood) Remix,” a no-holds-barred new version of the street single that’s been generating so much hype.
The song is available for streaming and free MP3 download from The Game’s brand-new website, TheGame360.com.
And while The Game has gained fame by collaborating with some of the best producers and artists in the hip-hop game, the new remix takes that tradition and blows it up into something unprecedented.
The arsenal of emcees on the “It’s Okay (One Blood) Remix” includes Snoop Dogg, Nas, T.I., Jim Jones, Fat Joe, Lil Wayne, Noreaga, Fabolous, Twista, Jadakiss & Styles P, Tha Dogg Pound, W.C., E-40, Clipse, Bun B, Slim Thug, Chamillionare, Juelz Santana, Young Dro, Ja Rule and more.
“What other rap artist could bring this type of lineup together for one song?” said The Game. “It’s the biggest rap remix ever, no question! And every emcee spits fire. Just listening to the track after we put the final touches on, I almost didn’t believe it myself. I’m very proud to be able to put this out for fans of hip-hop everywhere.”
The Game has already been wowing his growing number of fans with the video for the lead single on Doctor’s Advocate,“Let’s Ride (Strip Club).”
That collaboration between The Game and production giant Scott Storch hit airwaves earlier this month, finding quick success on MTV and BET. Directed by Little X, it recalls the spirit of rap music in 1990s Los Angeles and pays homage to some of the most famous rap music videos filmed in L.A. in that period.
“That track was a labor of love,” The Game said. “Scott and I made it happen last time around and I dig his sound, so I was excited to work with him again. When I hear ‘Let’s Ride’ blastin’ from cars in Compton, it feels like the soundtrack to the city.”
The original “It’s Okay (One Blood),” featuring Junior Reid, landed at radio stations in August and immediately exploded onto the charts. Buoyed by its own video, which follows The Game through the streets of Los Angeles, the song cracked Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, as well as its hip-hop and R&B singles charts.
Like his debut album, The Documentary, which sold over five million copies worldwide, Doctor’s Advocate features a generous helping of rap’s elite talent. In addition to Reid, Jamie Foxx, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, The Dogg Pound and Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry make vocal appearances, while on the production front, Just Blaze, Kanye West, will.i.am, Swizz Beatz, Hi-Tek, Jonathan “J.R.” Rottem, Nottz, Mr. Porter, Jelly Roll, DJ Khalil, Ervin “EP” Pope, Reefa, D-Roc and the aforementioned Storch all contribute songs.
In the lead-up to his sophomore album, The Game kept busy with a flurry of side projects and joint ventures. In the last year alone, he has enthralled the rap world with a series of searing mixtapes; starred alongside Larenz Tate, Meagan Good and Tyrese Gibson in the Rogue Pictures film, “Waist Deep;” and released new styles and colors of his popular Hurricane sneaker line, made by 310 Motoring. Most recently, he has partnered with Bix.com to give aspiring dancers and rappers the opportunity to win spots on forthcoming videos and mixtapes. The Game’s “Video Girl” and “Freestyle Battle” competitions are both free to enter (www.bix.com/thegame).
The Game’s 2005 debut, which had a number of hit singles including “Westside Story,” “Dreams” and “Put You On The Game,” catapulted him into rap superstardom. If Doctor’s Advocate approaches the success of The Documentary, as some anticipate it will, The Game will have the runaway rap hit of 2006 and his second chart-topping album in successive years.
